I like Meryl Streep. I love cooking. There is no question why you wouldn't like the movie if you liked either one or both!
I couldn't have missed the movie for anything. All through the trailers, i kept telling my husband "I want to see that movie".I'm a novice to cooking and for since my 5 month endeavour into full time cooking , I have been addicted to the experience. We saw the movie as soon as it was realised and it was great!
The movie runs parallel between two women. The film depicts events in the life of chef Julia Child in the early years in her culinary career, contrasting her life with Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes from Child's cookbook during a single year.
Its a different movie, set in different times , involving the life of two completely different women.
The Last Emperor is a biopic about Puyi, the last emperor of China. The movie starts in a prison where the ex emperor now a prisoner, slashes his wrists with a blade to kill himself. He looks worn and lost. The prison is filled with men accused of treachery betraying china and working with the Japanese. These prisoners are made to confess their crimes and are forced to reform themselves and accept the Chinese Republic movement. The story of the last emperor is told as a monologue by the emperor during his imprisonment.
The narration starts with him being 3 years and taken away from his mother to the forbidden city. The forbidden city is the imperial palace for the chinese emperors throughout centuries. He is bought up as an emperor.Fed,clothed, pampered, revered and bought up like an emperor from age 3.He is never allowed to leave the forbidden city. While the emperor grows and weds the girl chosen by the councel, the world outside is witnessing many a change caused by the world war and the anti landlord movements within China. He is exiled from his country and the Japanese support him. While he stays at Japan, the Japanese slowly make him comply with their attrocities and vilence against the people of China and his new reign of Manchukuo.
The story portrays the flamboyant lifestyle and aristocratic upbringing of the emperor and how he suffers in the transition to a gardener. In the last scenes, he is seen purchasing a ticket to see his own imperial palace of the forbidden city. The political unrest in China and the Japanese invasions are well depicted in the movie.
The movie won 9 oscars. My husband felt the movie was slow and lengthy. So he suggested i give a rating of 3.5!
Director : Bernardo Bertolucci

Oh my!confusion and mayhem at Vegas....it was one of the most hilarious movie we've seen this season.
Directed by: Todd Phillips
Written by: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, Justin Bartha, Jeffrey Tambor, Mike Tyson
The Hangover is, in essence, a creative twist on the “one crazy night” and “road trip” comedy templates. I don’t think it’s necessary to go into much detail as far as the plot is concerned; all you need to know is that a groom and his three groomsmen head out for a night of debauchery, and then wake up in the morning to find that their hotel room has been completely trashed and the groom has vanished. They have no recollection of what happened the night before, but as they try to retrace their steps, things get more and more out of hand. One of the movie’s greatest strengths is the way in which the story is told; the audience is kept in suspense as the mystery unravels essentially in real-time.
The storyline! The adventure on a balloon! The romance displayed between the adventures couple. The animation.
Everything is an absolute treat.
I just loved the movie. We saw the movie the second day of its release and it was awesome!!
I have a penchant for animation movies.Love to see them anytime.
But, this movie really impressed me.The way it was made, the love captured between the couple was well portrayed. Its a comedy adventure about a 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his wife's life long dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell.Together, they embark in an adventure, where they encounter talking dogs, an evil villain and a rare bird named Kevin.
His love for his wife and the scene where he flips the unturned pages of his wife's scrapbook is awesome. Its a great Pixar movie.
I picked this Oscar winning movie from the Burnaby Library.I picked it in a hurry. It was mentioned that it had bagged many awards and was rated as a good horror movie.
When we sat down to see it , we were astonished that i had actually got a 1968 year movie! The movie was half a century old and wow! it managed to catch our attention throughout. The movie was centered around Rosemary, wife of an actor who is struggling to make his mark.He is ambitious and overworked on his thoughts about his career. They move into a new building and Rosemary is hoping to get pregnant. There is an old couple who live next door whom she finds very noisy and intruding. Its strange that her husband seems to find them very nice and considers them as parental figures.Rosemary gets pregnant and is pampered by the old couple with their daily concoctions of vitamins and health syrups as prescribed by their doctor.Unfortunately, Rosemary tuns pale day by day and experiences many difficulties throughout her pregnancy. Her friend Hutch dies mysteriously passing on a book on Witches and also a clue that he leaves behind in the title of the book being an anagram.
Puzzled, she struggles her way to find out mysterious and unexplainable feelings that haunt her and worries desperately to save her baby as much as she could.
In the end she finds out that the neighbors were of a Satanic cult and were practising the Art of Black Magic. She correlates a few incidents and tries to figure out the mayhem in her thoughts.
The most startling fact is that her husband has also joined the cult and they trick her into giving the baby for the Satan.
Its a very well made movie, with coherant scenes that catch your attention throughout. The movie is based on a book called Rosemary's Baby.
The Title Song of Rosemary's Baby seems to be very famous and received a lot of attention for the music and mysterious tone of the lullaby .Click here to see and hear the title song.
Opps! This was a movie where for the first time me and my husband had different opinions.Violence and sheer violence was my stand on the film. My husband loved the fights and the guns.
It was a movie on Extra Terrestrials who land on Earth. The goverment has a seperate district for them and thats District 9. The aliens start to infest the place and create havoc. So the goverment plans to move them to another place. The story is about a man who woks for the oganization delaing with the aliens.Involved in the operation, he is exposed to a chemical found in one of the shacks of the alien. The chemical slowly transforms him to becoming a alien. He is now the most wanted and most priced biological thing on the planet as he posesses the genes of the human and the alien race.
Its sad to see how they exploit him and torture him and his own wife moves away.
The poor guy helps the alien to get the liquid back in the hope that he mightbe cured. The alien escapes but he is left behind. For the world , he is listed missing but actually he s among the other aliens transformed as one of them.
The movie is good.Lots of violence and blood. The very physique of the aliens described is repulsive...atleast to me.
My husband sat almost at the edge of the seat devouring the technology, guns and an alien story line.I still dint understand why!!??!! :-)
Other Informations : The story, adapted from Alive in Joburg, a 2005 short film directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Sharlto Copley, deals with the issues of xenophobia and social segregation. The title and premise of District 9 were inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa under apartheid in a residential area of Cape Town named District Six. The film was produced for $30 million and shot on location in Chiawelo, Soweto, presenting fictional interviews, news footage, and video from surveillance cameras in the style of a mock documentary.
A heart rendering story of the life of a Geisha. The movie was very well taken.
Story : In Japan of the 20's, the nine years old Chyio and her sister Satsu are sold by her fisherman father to a Geisha house in Miyako. Satsu is not accepted in the house and is sent to a brothel from where she escapes.Chyio is left alone, becoming a slave of a geisha. With the support of Mameha, an older Geisha she manages to learn the nuances of entertainment and art and becomes a famous Geisha. While still a child, Chyio falls in love with a rich nobleman, called the Chairman.Everything changes after the world war II. The story is all about Chyio and whether she gets to be with her true love.
Its fascinating how the system works and whether such geisha's still exist. After the movie we were intrigued by the life of a geisha, how they lived, their elaborate make up etc. There are lots of information about the geisha's.

A family drama and comedy...
It was a refreshing movie.Zac Effron quits his high school dream of playing basketball to marry his high school sweetheart Allison Miller who gets pregnant. After years of married life , Allison Miller wants to split because all that Mathew Perry (Zac Effron after 20 years! ) has done since then is whine about his life and his decision to marry Allison and having their baby.He now gets to be 17 again and he decides to relive his life.By the end of the movie, he realises how strongly he is attracted to Allison Miller and they were destined to be together. It was a nice movie.
The best part we loved about the movie was the comedy scenes with his eccentric friend Thomas Lennon. His attempts to date the Principal of the school where Zac Effron studies again is very hillarious.
Actors : Zac Effron , Mathew Perry, Allison Miller , Thomas Lennon
